Candacy A. Taylor is a cultural critic and visual artist with a master's degree in Visual Criticism from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

Before graduate school, Taylor worked as a member of Local 816 as a scenic artist and set designer for television and film productions. She created visual environments for companies such as Quaker Oats, Beach Blanket Babylon, Hallmark, Java One, Lincoln Mercury, Hyundai, and Banana Republic.
Taylor has driven over 10,000 miles interviewing and photographing 38 waitresses. Part of this project has been funded by the California Council for the Humanities and the Kentucky Oral History Commission. The photography exhibition is being toured by SUBJECT MATTERS (www.subjectmatters.info). A book, radio and film documentary are in development. Taylor has started a new multimedia project documenting beauty shop culture.
